Wedding Wednesday - Something Old

We have less then 4 months to go. I'm not stressing out just yet but every time I think about it (which is daily lately) I feel very overwhelmed with all the "small" details I need to pull together.  Next week I hope to share a few of those details.

One of the "small" details I've had planned for a very long time is my something old. I'm actually following in my cousin's footsteps on this one.

If I could have worn my Mom's dress I really would have but my Momma was quite a bit smaller than me when she got married and she's just a touch shorter. I loved the idea of honoring her by incorporating her dress, or pieces of her dress, into my own wedding day. So just like my cousin, a piece of my mom's dress will be dissembled to create my garter and possibly a few other small things. My aunt is gracious enough to do this for me as she did for my cousin and I'm really excited about this "small" detail. (And I will be buying a "throw-away" garter for the toss. I would love to pass my garter onto to Eva for her own wedding day.)

We had searched a few times in the attic for my Mom's dress but couldn't find the box it was in. Thankfully my Mom came across the box the other day so she pulled out her dress Sunday while we were celebrating her older brother's 50th Birthday. We even have my Dad's blue suit he wore on their wedding day. Ha! I have a dress form that I have kept at their house so I knew I had to dress up the mannequin and snap a few pictures before my Aunt cuts it up. Ahh!

The top layer is all lace. I love how simple her dress was especially in the wake of how big some dresses were in the 80s.

TINY waist

How cute is my Momma?

I can't wait to share the pictures of my garter once it's ready. It will be such a meaningful part of the day for me!

  1. Love it! Just a thought, could part of your dads blue suit be used for your something blue?

    1. Thanks ma'am, that's a really good idea. I talked to my mom and apparently I forgot what his suit looked like so it's actually white BUT his shirt was blue so if we still have it I'm gonna use a piece of it!
